I grew up in Germany as the son of a Senegalese father and a German mother, in a household of limited means. Being mixed-race and financially stretched in that environment shaped me in ways I didn't fully understand until much later. In hindsight it taught me early on how money, belonging, and identity are tangled together, and how scarcity can quietly define what you believe is possible for yourself. Despite that start, I had the privilege of a great education and the opportunity to study and work across different parts of the world. I trained as a lawyer, qualifying in both Germany and England & Wales, and went on to complete an MBA with Kellogg Northwestern & HKUST and earned the CFA charter in 2025. Asia has held a strong pull for me since I first traveled there straight after high school in the 1990s. I returned for work in 2014 and have since built my life and career across the region - living in Indonesia, Singapore, China, and now Thailand, where I'm based in Bangkok today. That journey has taken me far from where I started: geographically and otherwise. That distance is exactly why I feel a responsibility to give back. As a member of Rotary, I work on financial literacy projects that expand opportunity for people who, like my younger self, are told implicitly or explicitly that certain paths aren't meant for them. And through the work inspired by Trauma of Money, I try to bring the same lens to my professional life: helping people - especially those from mixed, underprivileged, or otherwise overlooked backgrounds. Inform their understanding about and their relationship with money, so they can educate themselves and become empowered rather than limited by where they began.
